AK lesions can take on a variety of appearances, but they\u2019re typically scaly with a sandpaper-like feel and range in color from skin-toned to reddish-brown. Lesions can be as small as the head of a pin or as large as a quarter (or even bigger if left untreated), and are considered the earliest stage in the development of skin cancer.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Actinic Keratosis Treatment<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because AKs are precancerous lesions and they can progress to squamous cell carcinoma they should be treated. Treatment options include cryosurgery (freezing of the lesions), shave removal, scraping, laser surgery, chemical peels, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BLU-U\u00ae Blue Light treatment, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and photodynamic therapy (PDT). There are also several medications available for the treatment of AKs, and regimens may vary depending on the kind of medication prescribed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your plan of care will be tailored to your unique situation, including age, the number and size of lesions, the success of any previous treatments, and personal preference.
